简要回答

A Zepbound tracker logs your dose date, injection site, weight trend, protein & side effects. Learn exactly what to track on tirzepatide and why it matters.

Zepbound (tirzepatide) is a once-weekly injectable approved for chronic weight management.

It is a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist — the same molecule sold in the US as Mounjaro for type 2 diabetes — and it works slowly, over months, on a dose that climbs on a fixed calendar.

That combination makes it exactly the kind of treatment that rewards good record-keeping.

This guide covers what to track on Zepbound, why each item matters clinically, and how to turn it into a two-minute weekly routine.

It is neutral and educational: you can do all of it on paper. An app just automates the parts people forget.

That Mounjaro/Zepbound split is the US picture.

In the EU, Brazil, China and a number of other countries there is no Zepbound brand: Mounjaro itself is approved for both type 2 diabetes and weight management (EU product information; Brazil's ANVISA, June 2025; China's NMPA, July 2024).

If you are weighing Zepbound against other GLP-1s or want the general framework first, start with our complete GLP-1 tracker app guide, then come back here for the Zepbound-specific details.

01

Why tracking matters on Zepbound specifically

Three things about Zepbound make tracking more than a nice-to-have:

The dose escalates on a schedule.

Zepbound starts at 2.5 mg and steps up in 2.5 mg increments, each held for at least four weeks. Logging which dose you took on which date keeps you synced to that plan and gives your prescriber an exact history at dose-adjustment visits.

It is once weekly, so a miss is easy.

A single skipped or late shot is far more likely with a weekly medicine than a daily one. A timestamped log makes the missed-dose decision simple instead of stressful (Zepbound uses a 4-day rule — see below).

Results and side effects are non-linear.

Weight comes off in fits and plateaus, and nausea tends to spike right after each dose increase. Only a trend — not a single day — tells you what is actually happening.

02

What to track on Zepbound (and why each one matters)

Here is the core Zepbound dataset. Use it as your checklist whether you track on paper, in a spreadsheet, or in an app.

Dose date and your Zepbound titration schedule

Zepbound is deliberately started low and increased on a set schedule to reduce gastrointestinal side effects.

Per Eli Lilly's dosing information, the recommended starting dose is 2.5 mg once weekly for 4 weeks (an initiation dose, not a maintenance dose), then 5 mg; from there the dose may be increased in 2.5 mg increments after at least 4 weeks on the current dose, up to the maximum of 15 mg once weekly.

The recommended maintenance doses are 5 mg, 10 mg, or 15 mg (FDA prescribing information; zepbound.lilly.com dosing).

Because the dose changes on a calendar, logging which mg you took on which date is the single most useful thing you can record.

Your prescriber decides where you settle and whether to step up — a clean dose log makes that conversation faster.

The missed-dose rule (worth getting right). Zepbound uses a 4-day (96-hour) rule — shorter than semaglutide's 5-day window (Ozempic; Wegovy's US "next dose more than 2 days away" wording describes the same window), a common point of confusion.

Per the FDA label: if it has been 4 days or fewer since your missed dose, take it as soon as possible; if more than 4 days have passed, skip the missed dose and resume on your next regularly scheduled day (FDA prescribing information).

A tracker that timestamps every shot turns this into a glance. Always follow your own label and prescriber.

Injection site and rotation

Zepbound is injected subcutaneously into one of three areas: the abdomen (keep at least two inches from the navel), the front or outer thigh, or the upper arm. You may reuse the same body area, but never the exact same spot — rotate each week (Zepbound how-to-use, Eli Lilly).

Repeatedly injecting the same exact point can cause lipohypertrophy — lumpy scar tissue that changes how the medicine is absorbed.

The problem is memory: after a few weeks, nobody recalls "left thigh or right arm last time?" This is where a tracker earns its keep — a good one shows a body map with your recent sites highlighted so you always pick a fresh one.

Zepbound comes as a single-dose pen, a single-dose vial, and a KwikPen, so also note which form and strength you used.

Weight, measurements, and progress photos

Weight is the headline number for a Zepbound weight loss tracker, but it is noisy day to day.

Weigh in at the same time (typically morning, after the bathroom, before eating) and let the trend line — not a single reading — tell the story.

Plateaus are common and medically explainable.

Waist measurements and progress photos every 2–4 weeks capture body-composition change the scale hides, which matters most exactly when the number stalls.

Protein, food, and protecting muscle

This is the most under-appreciated part of a Zepbound journey.

Because tirzepatide sharply reduces appetite, a meaningful share of the weight you lose can be lean body mass — analyses of GLP-1 weight-loss trials have reported roughly 30–40% of lost weight as lean mass (note that some of this is water and organ tissue, not only skeletal muscle) (review in Frontiers / PMC).

Muscle protects your metabolism and long-term results. Two trackable habits do the heavy lifting:

  1. Protein. Aim for a high-protein target at each meal (many clinicians suggest distributing protein across the day). When appetite drops, protein is usually the first thing to fall — so logging it keeps it front of mind.
  2. Resistance training. Strength work is the strongest defense against muscle loss on a GLP-1; log your sessions like you log your dose.

Side effects — normal vs. red flag

The most common Zepbound side effects are gastrointestinal: nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, and reduced appetite.

These usually appear or worsen right after a dose increase and settle as your body adapts.

Rare but serious risks include pancreatitis and gallbladder disease, and the label carries a boxed warning for thyroid C-cell tumors seen in rodents.

Logging what you felt, how severe, and how many days since your last dose or dose step-up turns a vague "I've felt off" into a clear pattern.

For the full symptom-by-symptom breakdown, see our guide to GLP-1 side effects.

If you use birth-control pills: the US tirzepatide labels (Mounjaro, Zepbound) advise switching to a non-oral method or adding a barrier method for 4 weeks after starting and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.

The EU label does not require this, so ask your prescriber which applies to you.

Safety basics for any GLP-1 log. Don't use these medicines if you or a close relative has had medullary thyroid cancer, or if you have MEN 2.

They are not used during pregnancy — tell your prescriber right away if you become pregnant or plan to, because some must be stopped weeks to months beforehand.

If you also take insulin or a sulfonylurea, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion).

Vomiting or diarrhea that keeps you from holding down fluids can dehydrate you and strain your kidneys — call your clinician.

A tracker organizes your records; the package leaflet in your country and your prescriber come first.

How to build a Zepbound tracking routine in 6 steps

You do not need a complicated system — you need a repeatable one. This takes under two minutes a week for the core log, plus quick daily taps.

  1. 1

    Set a weekly injection reminder.

Pick a consistent day and time and set a recurring alert so a late shot never sneaks up on you.

  2. 2

Log the dose and site right after injecting.

Record the mg amount and mark the body-map zone, so next week's rotation is obvious.

  3. 3

    Weigh in on fixed days.

Choose 1–3 mornings a week, same conditions, and read the trend — not the daily noise.

  4. 4

    Track protein and water daily.

A quick tap per meal is enough to keep muscle protection on track.

  5. 5

Note side effects when they happen.

Record the symptom, severity, and days since your last dose or dose increase.

  6. 6

Photo every 2–4 weeks and review before each visit.

Same lighting, same angle — and bring your dose log and side-effect timeline to your clinician.

05

Do you need a Zepbound app, or is a notebook fine?

Honestly, any tracking beats none — a Zepbound diary in a notebook works.

What an app adds is the automation of the parts people forget: the weekly reminder, the injection-site rotation map, the trend line that smooths daily weight noise, and a side-effect timeline you can hand to your clinician.

Zepbound does not ship with a dedicated companion app, so most people use a general GLP-1 or wellness tracker.

If you want your dose log living next to the daily habits that protect your results — protein, movement, hydration, weight and body-composition trends — a wellness app like HAVIT is a natural home for it.

Compare a few options in our best GLP-1 tracker apps guide and pick what you will actually keep using; consistency matters far more than the brand.

Why HAVIT — Medication + Behavior Change, in One App

GLP-1 medications can meaningfully reduce weight — but the number on the scale is only part of the story.

The lean-mass share of the weight lost on GLP-1 therapy has ranged from 40–60% in some trials to 15% or less in others — and lean mass counts organs, bone and fluid, not only muscle (Neeland et al., Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, 2024), and results tend to fade once the medication stops unless new habits take their place.

That's why leading guidance treats medication as one part of care, not the whole: the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends that adults with obesity be offered intensive, multicomponent behavioral interventions (USPSTF, Grade B).

HAVIT is built for exactly this moment — one app that unites medication tracking, body composition, nutrition and protein, daily habit-building, and an AI coach that adapts to you.

Across our own 1,090 GLP-1 users, the most consistent trackers built the strongest habits (see the GLP-1 habit report).

常见问题

What is a Zepbound tracker?
It is any tool — app, spreadsheet, or notebook — that records the key parts of Zepbound treatment: your weekly dose date and mg amount, the injection site you rotated to, weight, protein, water, side effects, and progress photos. It turns those into reminders and trend charts you can review and share with your doctor.
What should I track on Zepbound?
At minimum: the weekly dose date and amount, the injection site, body weight, protein intake, water, and side effects, plus periodic measurements or photos. Adding resistance-training sessions is worthwhile, since strength work protects the muscle that rapid weight loss can strip.
What is the Zepbound dose schedule I should log?
Zepbound starts at 2.5 mg once weekly for 4 weeks, then 5 mg, and may increase in 2.5 mg steps every 4 weeks up to a maximum of 15 mg; maintenance doses are 5, 10, or 15 mg. Log which mg you took on which date so you and your prescriber can see the full history.
What happens if I miss a Zepbound dose?
Zepbound uses a 4-day (96-hour) rule. If it has been 4 days or fewer since the missed dose, take it as soon as possible; if more than 4 days have passed, skip it and resume on your next scheduled day. That is shorter than semaglutide's 5-day window (Ozempic, Wegovy). Always follow your own label and prescriber.
Is Zepbound the same as Mounjaro?
They are the same drug — tirzepatide — from the same maker. In the US, Zepbound is approved for chronic weight management, while Mounjaro is approved for type 2 diabetes. In the EU, Brazil, China and many other countries there is no Zepbound brand — Mounjaro itself is also approved for weight management. The molecule, pens, and doses are the same; the approved indication differs. Track your dose and site the same way for either.
Why do I need to track my Zepbound injection site?
Injecting the same spot repeatedly can create lumpy scar tissue (lipohypertrophy) that changes absorption. Rotating across the abdomen, thigh, and upper arm — and logging each site — keeps absorption consistent, which is easier with a tracker's body map.
Why is protein tracking so important on Zepbound?
Because tirzepatide sharply cuts appetite, a large share of the weight lost can be lean mass — GLP-1 trial analyses suggest roughly 30–40%. Prioritizing protein at each meal, alongside resistance training, is the main way to protect muscle and your long-term metabolism.
Is there an official Zepbound tracking app?
Zepbound does not come with a dedicated companion tracking app. Most people use a general GLP-1 or wellness app, or a simple notebook, to log doses, sites, weight, and side effects. Choose whichever you will keep using consistently — that matters more than the specific tool.
